This Year's Model Updates:

Ford's big sedan receives a number of updates for 2003. A new full-perimeter frame uses strong, lightweight hydroformed steel sections for the front rails to improve frontal and offset crash performance. Redesigned frame crossmembers and new optional side impact airbags improve side impact crash performance. Additionally, the new frame -- combined with a redesigned independent front suspension and new monotube shock absorbers -- contributes to a smoother, more controlled ride and improved handling. Other changes include a new variable ratio rack and pinion steering system with variable power assist and a new dual-rate brake booster that automatically supplies full braking power in a panic stop. Inside, revised seats offer improved comfort and appearance; the cupholders are new; and a three-point seatbelt has been added for the rear center passenger.

Pros:
  • Rear-wheel drive, plenty of interior space, comfortable ride, excellent crash-test results.
Cons:
  • Large size makes it difficult to park and maneuver.

The poor things been hit twice inside first year weve owned it. Once parked at a Hotel parking lot at sons wedding and once rear ended. Both times damage was small and almost un noticed. Door rocker panel came in right about $1K. The rear end under $700. Was hit hard too but except for TOYOTA imprinted on bumper panel and minor scraps, not one dent and you really would not know it was hit... See, truck arent only thing biult Ford Tough!!

Being a paraplegic and towing a small travel trailer this car meets my needs. It has plenty of power but as soon as you take it out of over drive pulling the trailer you mpg takes a nose dive. The Crown is still one of the finest looking cars on the road!I love it!

Bought an 03 Crown Vic LX Sport for the trunk and low-tech V8. Im young and wanted the sport for the console and more aggressive look. Have had only minor problems (brakes) in 70K miles. Did have to replace the AC control unit ($900) when it went out at 60K. Best mileage on a tank was 23, mostly highway. Tires are a little pricey. Also seems a little hard to control at speed in the wind.

This car replaces an 11 yr old, 1992 Saturn SL2. It is intended to be another long term car (10yrs min). Very good highway ride with crisp handling, and surprisingly nimble around town too, thanks to the new rack and pinion steering and suspension improvements. Low rumble from exhaust during warmup indicates need for slightly more underbody sound deadening. Exceptional room in the front for tall drivers, but rear seat leg room could be better. Controls are well laid out and visibility is very good. Leather seats dont provide enough grip during hard cornering, but are reasonably comfortable on 4 hour trips.

Crown Vic/Mercury Marquis owner since 1985. 2000 model gives superb mileage (20 in town/26.6 highway), has huge trunk, excellent reliability, low insurance rates. Just may be the best car value for the money, all things considered.

This is the first Ford product Ive ever owned. Thus far Im very satisfied in general. Its a "big" car with rear wheel drive. Not used to that. Traded an Impala which was the second one I had owned but retired and wanted a "large" car. Car is not a responsive as Id like it to be but guess Im not used to the "bigness". Ride is perfect and wife loves it. See how it does in time.
